Positive Life Concepts is looking for an experienced Senior Level CAD Technician for our British Columbia based client.  Our client is an established survey company with decades of experience in the region.  They are committed to providing superior services to their client's and are looking for a new team member with the same dedication to quality and excellence. From Vancouver Island to the Lower Mainland, the Sunshine Coast to the BC interior, our client has projects throughout the  province. 

If you're living on Vancouver Island or you're looking to move to the West Coast, this is the opportunity for you.  This is a fulltime permanent position based in Nanaimo.  The Harbour City provides its residents with the West Coast lifestyle of shorelines and natural beauty without the Lower Mainland cost of living.  Its less than a day's drive to skiing, surfing, sailing, golfing, biking and rock climbing.

Requirements:

  • A solid understanding of how to read engineering, transportation and architectural plans;
  • Ability to upload and download/import 3D data sets;
  • Autodesk Civil 3D or CAiCE software experience and proficiency.
  • Experience with survey post processing including the ability to read survey data derived from topographic surveys, drone data, LiDAR scans, terrestrial scanning, as-built surveys and boundary surveys.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working on British Columbia Ministry of Transportation projects.  Or 5 years experience working on transportation projects in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
  • Expert at using Autodesk Civil 3D program and Microsoft Office,
  • Knowledgeable of common engineering, design, survey and drafting practices,
  • Good written and oral communication skills including letter and report writing,
  • Ability to work quickly, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines,
  • Understand and execute duties of data / notes filing, file management and archiving

Responsibilities:

  • Technologist position is required to create roadway corridors based upon interpretation and development of Horizontal and Vertical alignments
  • Correctly locating sample lines to create a comprehensive corridor along roadways, highways, round-a-bouts and rural and urban environments.
  • Using appropriate subassembly libraries, build earthworks Assemblies, matching the provided typical sections or standard engineering practices. (TAC manual)
  • Volumetric computation using cross section average end area as well as Delta surfaces.
  • Remeasure volume for roadways; develop remeasure DTM surface from field survey data, insert these DTM’s into the current road design corridor
  • Edit surface to create closed envelopes and run volume calculation (average end area) for construction monthly pay quantities.
  • Merge topographic survey data into LiDAR data sets to create large comprehensive Original Ground surfaces / contours, for base plan production.
  • Adapt to and develop existing Civil 3D libraries and templates for several clients, municipal and provincial.
  • Work with various client templates, import points, line work into survey data bases, edit the points and linework to ensure correct modeling
  • Create DTM’s and generating contours, original ground (OG) profiles on Existing Centre line alignments, create base cross section on surveyed original ground for quality control of OG DTM and base plan production.
  • Building Subdivision plans and /or convert street, utility, drainage, earthwork and structural design per design standards, to construction survey lay out file formats.
  • Maintain good communication with the project team to complete tasks efficiently,
  • Perform legal survey document and utility research,
  • Understand and follow multiple codes and standards.
  • Competent using Autodesk Civil 3D program and Microsoft Office,
  • Knowledgeable of common engineering, design, survey and drafting practices,
  • Good written and oral communication skills including letter and report writing,
  • Ability to work quickly, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines,
  • Understand and execute duties of data / notes filing, file management and archiving
  • Takes personal responsibility for completing quality work within budgets and timelines.

Working Conditions: 

  • Primarily office work with some field time as necessary,
  • Work approved overtime as needed,
  • Maintain good communication with co-workers and if required, client representatives.
  • This position will generally be 80% Civil Tech duties as described here, 10% Data management, filing and archiving, 5% Civil or Legal drafting and 5% field duties.
